How does an image, a symbol, a gesture get twisted round to mean something entirely different from how it was intended? How are they used for the purposes of causes, even the most intensely repressive ones? Feels Good Man, released earlier this year, looks at the weird and well-known saga of Pepe the Frog, cartoonist Matt Furie’s relatively neutral comic book character who, during the ascent of Donald Trump, became an emblem of the alt-right. Join the Art & Socialism subcommittee for a viewing of this critically praised film, and a discussion with filmmakers Giorgio Angelini and Arthur Jones after!
(Covid is cutting deep into the livelihoods of independent filmmakers everywhere. Therefore, though this event is free, we are asking comrades to seriously consider donating to the filmmakers’ PayPal: feelsgoodmanfilm@gmail.com)
