The first meeting of DSA-LA’s priority campaign on housing. We will discuss how the chapter can respond to a number of tenant struggles underway, such as:

  • the displacement of tenants in 577 occupied units of the Barrington Plaza apartments by corporate landlord Douglass Emmet, Inc., a company that donated $400,000 to the election campaign of Councilmember Traci Park.
  • the struggle of tenants at Hillside Villa in Chinatown
  • the struggle of tenants of the Koreatown, East Hollywood, and Highland Park corporate landlord K3 Holdings
  • the use of the $150 million in ULA funding the City Council recently appropriated for new LAHD programs, including acquisition and rehabilitation of existing residential buildings.

We look forward to seeing you and discussing how our chapter can contribute to these fundamental tests of strength between tenants and landlords in what is appearing to be a momentous year for housing activism, setting the backdrop for the 2024 elections.
