The Supreme Court has overturned Roe and Casey, threatening the rights of millions of working people across the country. More than half of states will attempt to ban or severely restrict abortion, and 13 states have ‘trigger’ laws that automatically ban abortion. This is a blatant, deadly, and undemocratic attack on the working class. This is the beginning of a right-wing rollback of Supreme Court decisions that enshrined basic queer and civil rights. Our bodies, our lives, our rights, and our democracy are on the line. True freedom means reproductive justice for all.
While California is not a trigger law state, we still have far to go. In 2017, some 40% of California counties had no clinics that provided abortions. On top of that, an abortion can cost up to $1,000 out of pocket, and a recent study revealed that 56% of Americans can’t cover a $1,000 emergency expense. Free abortion, on demand, without apology is a vital issue for the working class.
On July 4th 2022, DSA chapters across the country are hosting a Day of Action to protest the Supreme Court’s decision and to demand reproductive justice and access. Join DSA-LA for a rally to demand that the city of Los Angeles and the state of California protect abortion rights and access. We will hear from union healthcare workers and DSA-endorsed candidates as we mobilize the energy of Angelenos to fight for reproductive rights.
