This November, DSA-LA is organizing a Fund-A-Thon for Indigenous Women Rising’s Abortion Fund, which provides financial assistance for Indigenous people seeking abortions in the US and Canada. The pandemic and the passage of Texas’s draconian abortion law have made accessing abortion even more difficult for Native communities, who have spent centuries fighting for just healthcare and bodily autonomy.

“We’re the only race in the country that is denied access to abortion merely because of our race,” Charon Asetoyer (Comanche), founder and executive director of the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center on the Yankton Sioux reservation in South Dakota, told Indian Country. “We access health care through the federal government, and the federal government prohibits funds for abortion services.”

This month, local dues from new member sign-ups and direct donations will go toward reaching our $5,000 IWR contribution goal. Please donate and share if you’re able – Indigenous people deserve reproductive justice on their own land.

The form below can be used to make a general donation to DSA-LA. Our chapter has approved a contribution from chapter funds up to $5,000 for this campaign. Donations to the chapter beyond this amount will be directed according to our existing democratic processes.
