What do we need to know about the electrification of Los Angeles, can we equitably transition away from fossil fuels, and is sweeping change possible within our capitalist system?

Join us for a one-hour presentation on these topics and more, as we are joined by three speakers: Dr. Stephanie Pincetl, Founding Director and Professor at UCLA’s California Center for Sustainable Communities; Professor David Klein, an organizer with the DSA-LA Climate Justice Committee; and an organizer from Sunrise Movement Los Angeles.

Dr. Pincetl will give an “Electrification 101”: speaking about California’s electric grid, the challenges in electrifying, retrofitting, the infrastructure of utility companies and regulators, and capacities for change.

David Klein will kick things off by giving an overview of recent data of the climate crisis, and how capitalism ties into the worsening of the climate conditions. After Prof. Klein, a representative from Sunrise Movement L.A will share how a Just Transition, generating local power from renewable energy, and electrification are a central part of the Green New Deal.

This live stream can be viewed on any of DSA-LA’s social media channels on the day of the event. Questions to the panel can be submitted when you RSVP, or in the “comments’ live the day of the event.
