This Imperialism Study Series is for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of violent dispossessions that characterize the ascent of global capitalism and struggles for self-determination around the world—struggles which remain core to the socialist project. Across four sessions, this series examines foundational concepts, the role of national liberation within imperial power dynamics, and closes with a contemporary case study.

Current events and geopolitical calculations often involve China, but only understood through the distortions of Western media. This fourth session seeks to bring the concepts and examinations from previous sessions to bear on one of the most consequential narratives in the entire history of global socialism (and capitalism). Recommended readings range from the fall of dynastic China under imperialist pressure, to China’s victorious revolution, to contemporary examinations of China’s role in the global economy today.
