This Summer, DSA sent two delegations to Peru and Venezuela to learn from and support left-wing movements and mass parties. For the last thirty years, Latin America has been a major region where the Left has attempted, through various strategies, to take power, assert national self-determination, and redistribute wealth. Starting with the Presidential election of Hugo Chavez in 1998, Venezuela has undergone various moments of class struggle and contradiction; while Peruvians recently elected a rural teacher and socialist to the Presidency.
DSA-LA members are invited to attend this plenary featuring key organizers analyzing the current South American moment. We will have three guest speakers from throughout the United States sharing their first-hand experiences of what is happening on the ground in Peru and Venezuela.
