Please join us for our discussion of the book, Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent by Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano on Tuesday, April 12 from 7:00PM – 9:00PM PST.

In Open Veins, Galeano covers topics such as colonialism, imperialism, and dependency theory in Latin America through histories of European colonization and exploitation of natural resources.

We’ll be discussing the second third of the book, from the chapter Cacao Planters Lit Their Cigarettes With 500,000-Reis Bills to the chapter The Montoneros And Juan Manuel De Rosa’s Legacy of Hate.

Attendance at previous meetings isn’t required. You can begin the book here if you like.

A collaborative doc with the text we’ll be discussing, and links to audiobooks are provided.

The discussion group is open to all, including DSA members outside of the San Fernando Valley and non-DSA members.

Please RSVP for Zoom connection information and the text.
