The entertainment industry continues to be a hotbed of growing worker power. IATSE locals are currently bargaining for a new contract agreement. The dust is settling after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the industry has changed. What lessons can we take from 2023’s strikes? What’s going on in 2024? How can continue build cross-industry solidarity? How do we grow a strong working class movement?
As part of DSA-LA’s Labor Committee’s Strike Hype series, join us for a panel discussion about the state of Hollywood and learn how workers are taking the power back! We’re excited to announce our event will be moderated by Neda Davarpanah, a member of DSA-LA’s Hollywood Labor leadership and a WGA and IATSE 871 member. She will be joined by rank-and-file union members Nick Adams (WGA), Ely Henry (SAG-AFTRA), Maggie Anne Goll (IATSE 44) and Nora Meek (The Animation Guild/IATSE 839) talking about their personal experiences, along with Los Angeles City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez.
Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Parking validation is available for the adjacent parking lot at 635 S Berendo St, Los Angeles, CA 90010., but please save your ticket! We also strongly encourage using public transportation to get to the event. The Wilshire/Vermont LA Metro stop is very close by! From the station, head west on Wilshire Blvd toward S Vermont Ave for .2 miles, and then turn right on South Berendo Street.
