Please join us for our discussion of the book, Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent by Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano on Tuesday, April 26 from 7:00PM – 9:00PM PST.
In Open Veins, Galeano covers topics such as colonialism, imperialism, and dependency theory in Latin America through histories of European colonization and exploitation of natural resources.
We’ll be discussing the last third of the book, beginning at the chapter How the War Against Paraguay Wrecked The Only Successful Attempt at Independent Development.
Attendance at previous meetings isn’t required. You can begin the book here if you like.
A collaborative doc with the text we’ll be discussing, and links to audiobooks are provided.
